KYOTO Fourth time's a...

This the last chance to see the temples in Kyoto. This day was filled with great surprises at every turn.

Kyoto was a wonderful surprise – the temples and shrines in the hills of the city were magnificent. Getting from one to the other was another thing. We rented bicycles near the train station and rode on the streets, sidewalks, along the river and roads. Leo was much more comfortable at jumping from sidewalk to street to crosswalks, to zipping in and out of cars and traffic, to running through flashing lights ready to turn red for Sony and I.  After Sony nearly had a run in with a motorbike and I with both another bike and vehicle ~ it wasn’t worth to follow blindly to risk a crash.

But today, this day was FANTASTIC!   We loved Kyoto so much, we've made two trips back from Nara.  Truly, truly ~ today is our last day in Kyoto and we're on a quest to see the very best of the temples we missed!

SHO-REN-IN TEMPLE

This gong sent chills through my body, it brought me back to my healing session in Bali, as the vibrations of the gongs and bells placed on my chakra centers reverberated deep into my spine.  It was both surprising and thought provoking at that moment!

NANZENJI TEMPLE

The following four photos are Leo's work ~ pretty incredible!

On the road to the next one  ~ we head to Ginkakuji again for Reiko and Follow the Philosopher's Walk

YASAKA SHRINE

Wishes, blessings and dedications on white paper tied to branches resembling a blossomed tree.  The wood stick are used for the same purpose.

I love these photos of these kids in traditional ceremonial outfits!   Very cute.

PHILOSOPHER'S WALK

Contemplating carp...

"Ode to the manhole cover"

Enjoying green tea and gooey, yummy, cream puffs!

At last...Sony gets to enjoy cream puffs ~ we shared roasted chestnut and a green tea ~ hands down green tea was the favorite. What you don't see is how Reiko and Sony fought over the last bite!!!

Time to get back on the bikes again.  It's 2:30 and Sony wants for us to make the 7.5 mile trek to Tenryu-ji Temple across town.  Oy.
