Capturing Autumn in Kyoto

Photo Competition, Part 1

Day two in Kyoto we decided to up level our photo snapping so we created a photo contest with five categories.  The competitive energy was intense, well as intense as this crew can be ~ a bit of elbowing and guffawing along the way.  At the end of the day, we download the photos onto my laptop and view all the photos together.

BEST LEAVES
BEST "FLATS"
BEST OVERALL
MOST CREATIVE
BEST TEMPLE

The attendants at ANA Hotel wear traditional kimonos and look terribly cute!

KORYU-JI TEMPLE

We were pretty sure this wasn't the Zen Temple we had intended to see.  Each night Sony would research the places to visit then find the coordinates for Leo to input into the GPS.  Since we don't speak or read Japanese, we can't read the signs.
Try, try again.

RYOANJI TEMPLE & ZEN GARDEN

Getting lost in the trees, over bridges, notched look outs on the walk around the pond was inspiring.  The rock garden was cool, though the colors caught my attention!

Interesting to see uniformed school kids.  The girls hike up their skirts as far as they can and still be legal ~ note far right. The guys reminded me of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club album cover in their military influenced get up.

In search of the Imperial Palace...

where's the Imperial Palace?

Here's to all of you who know my cycling requirements at home:  with Sony and Leo we rode the streets of Kyoto dodging traffic, other cyclists and pedestrians without a helmet, cushy cycling gloves and other groovy gear. It was the BEST way to get around.  Crashed into the side of a house when a little old man veered right into my path.  I have the bruises to prove it!

the Japanese say "cheez -a!"

where's the Imperial Palace?

Imperial Palace?

all smiles and lots of help
university students with the flats!

we're here...but where's the entrance?

THE IMPERIAL PALACE

Finally!  The Imperial Palace.
