FUSHIMI INARI
The rhythmic sounds of drumming enticed us to stop and take look at the celebration on our path.
This little fellow with the yellow cap was the center of attention as they raised him to the skies the drumming became more intense and the crowd snapped his photo.
Guests purchase these blank greetings and write their wishes for the honored person.
Red bean mochi were fresh, a bit crispy on the outside and hot on the inside ~ very yummy!
We are now headed up the river 5 miles to our next stop. Along the way, I try to shoot photos without losing my balance...here are a few shots between Leo and I.
I don't recall the name of this shrine or temple but will keep trying to figure it out. We rode up and immediately Sony and I were intrigued with what folks were enjoying with their tea. Looked like mochi!
You've seen these over and over again sometimes shaped like fox heads, hearts, mini-shrines, etc. You may purchase blank tags and write your own sentiments to add to the display. Many of these have "animae" characters.
DAITOKUJI TEMPLE
This temple resembles a campus like layout with living quarters, meditation, prayer and learning areas.

OUBAI - IN ZEN TEMPLE
Special Exhibition of Zen Meditation gardens and living. Photographs were not permitted in private spaces though I was able to sneak a few of the gardens.
Incredible examples of balance, tranquility, peace, calm and meditative living.
On our way through the complex, this little side area revealed hundreds of old stone representation statues for dedication or worship.
Breakfast that morning ~ courtesy of Sony.
After our Japanese bath house soak in a nearby hotel, which we conveniently learned the entrance code number ~ Sony and I sent to the grocery store for their 40% off specials for dinner. We came away with sashimi, a chicken and rice dish, grilled fish and small bento type meal. We ate it all up!!
