Ahhh.... A Day at Sang Spa

UBUD

Bali is know as a healing place with strong Hindu customs, rituals and their devotion to spirits and gods, the absolute peace and tranquility that comes from the natural surroundings, the movement of Bali Spirit in meditation and yoga, and oh yes, their spa treatments and offerings.

Until a few years ago spa, massage and other treatments were not in my vocabulary.  Much too ticklish to have someone, anyone hit a sensitive spot for fear hysterical giggles would set in. With the help of my sister in law Adriana, who has very magical hands, who de-sensitized me over time though admittedly still on the timid side ~ note earlier entry “Memories of a Montenegrin Massage.”    Upon arrival in Bali first order of business was to make an appointment at Sang Spa, villa owner Jody’s favorite places.

Let me take you through it:

first they greet you and give you slippers...

then they offer you cold or hot ginger tea....

you may then choose your package...

and the scrubs:  coconut jasmine, green tea, herbal, frangipani, chocolate...

then they escort you to the room…

what you see faced down on the table, delightful!
My choice? Five and half hours to include an hour and a half massage, green tea body scrub, cucumber mask facial, hair treatment, manicure and pedicure.  Generally not one for the pretty girlie stuff but what the heck plus this package was a mere $76 including a light lunch! I’ll spare you the details on most but the scrub was incredible especially when they spread honey yogurt all over your body after the scrub rinse….

Then a 15 minute soak in a rose petal sprinkled gigantic tub where you’re served tea and fruit...

then lunch...

melon and papaya juice

And the final treatment of the day, with this view...

all this makes us relaxed, smooth and soft!

The second time we were encouraged to try the good karma massage with TWO therapists, FOUR hands, 20 fingers for 90 minutes.  Oh my!  Fabulous…
